And here we go again with our selection of albums released this week.
I was personally pretty excited to hear the new work by Apparat, since the new single Violent Sky has been published on Soundcloud. The whole album, Krieg and Frieden (Music for Theatre) is based on Sebastian Hartmann’s theatre production of Tolstoy’s War and Peace, and is utterly beautiful – to be listened loud and clear (HQ). Review and full album streaming available here.
Second on this week’s playlist is Untamed Beast, by Portland band Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside – because we all need to remember what rockabilly is about. Go dance your bellies off!
Apparently, reviewers find it difficult to write about The Marriage of True Minds, the last work by experimental duo Matmos, out this week on NY independent label Thrill Jockey (after nine years at Matador). To quote John Cage: you don’t have to call it music, if the term shocks you. I must say I am enjoying this pretty much:
Next, High Low by The Band in Heaven, closing track from the ‘Psych For Sore Eyes’ EP – six tracks of modern psychedelia mastered by Sonic Boom and also featuring Hookworms, Ttotals, The Vacant Lots, White Manna and Lorelle Meets The Obsolete. The label (that celebrates itself) describes it as the best-looking record you will see next year. Not sure about the look, but the idea of a 3D case is quite fun – I feel dizzy already.
